04 July 2005 US interest rate rise... For the ninth consecutive month, the US Federal Reserve has increased interest rates by a quarter of a percent to 3.25%. This latest increase was widely anticipated as the Fed tries to maintain economic growth but also curb rising inflation. It was also good news for the struggling US dollar as rising interest rates stimulates better returns for investors buying assets priced in dollars.
