The Office of National Statistics (ONS) has reported that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has risen by 2.4% in the year to August, up from 2.3% in July. The higher inflation levels are primarily due to higher food and transport costs.

The All-items Retail Price Index (RPI) has recorded a rise to 2.8% down from 2.9% in July. The All-items excluding mortgage interest payments (RPIX) recorded a 2.3% increase, down from 2.4% in July.
