29 June 2006 South Africa consumer price inflation rises The Office of Statistics South Africa has reported that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has risen by 3.9% in the year to May, up from 3.3% in April 2006. The higher inflation levels are due to annual increases in the prices indices for food, transport, housing, medical care and health expenses. The annual percentage change in CPIX, the Consumer Price Index excluding interest rates on mortgage bonds, recorded a 4.1% increase in May 2006, up from 3.7% in April.
