The US Federal Reserve has raised interest rates by a quarter-point to 4.25% but signalled that the current cycle of hikes may be nearing its end.

Most analysts had forecast the rise, the 13th consecutive increase, with the central bank wanting to keep the lid on inflationary pressures.

Rates now stand at their highest level in four and a half years.
