06 April 2006 Corus puts £40 a tonne on sections Raw material costs and high energy prices have prompted steel giant Corus to raise structural section prices by £40 a tonne. Spokesman Jonathan Sochart said: "The healthy demand along with continued pressure on raw material and energy costs, means we are having to increase our prices for structural sections into the UK market." The company added that demand for structural steel in the UK remained healthy with strong signs of growth in construction from mainland Europe. There is also high demand from the Middle East and the US. The rise comes into effect on April 30.
