01 June 2005 Brazil GDP growth lower than anticipated In the first quarter of 2005, Brazil's economy grew slower than anticipated as strict monetary policy took its hold on the recovering economy. Lacklustre investment coupled with nine consecutive monthly interest rate increases has led to GDP growth of 0.3% over the previous quarter, the worst since third quarter 2003, and below the consensus forecast of 0.5%.
