13 July 2006 Australia: Increase in Employment The Australian Bureau of Statistics yesterday announced that employment in Australia had increased the most in two years by 52,000 last month; the jobless rate however remained unchanged at 4.9 per cent. This news has encouraged some economists to revise their forecasts for the central banks interest rates, with some anticipating interest rate rises for the next month.
